The Maroons are an art project by Simone Bailey. Her work is an interrogation of disembodied poetics and the impulse to grasp the intangible. Her practice focuses on perception, process, ephemerality, desire, surrogate bodies, violence, and the impossible, all while maintaining an intimate proximity to blackness.
This 7" vinyl record with risograph insert tells the story of punk band, The Maroons. Set in 1977, three artists came together to extend the tradition of their African American rock 'n' roll forebears into San Francisco's emerging punk movement
Surrender to the Savage is a 7" record that was the final release by The Maroons, an all-black punk bank from the 1970s that existed at the intersection of black power and punk rock. The record also comes with an 8 page risograph publication that includes images, song lyrics, The Maroons’ manifesto, and a short narrative about the band. Edition of 500
