The Advisory Circle is the work of Kate Brooks, melodic and often melancholic electronic music inspired in part by library music of the 70s and 80s.
Brooks is a stalwart of the Ghost Box label and an extraordinarily prolific artist. She has released several albums and collaborative singles as The Advisory Circle. She also records as The Pattern Forms with Ed Macfarlane and Edd Gibson of Friendly Fires. She has worked with vocalist Tim Felton as Hintermass, and along with Ghost Box founder Jim Jupp she was half of The Belbury Circle. Before joining the Ghost Box family in the early 00s Brooks recorded for Lo Records as King of Woolworths.
Cate Brook's fifth album as The Advisory Circle, Ways Of Seeing, is a beautiful and uplifting selection of electronic pieces, inspired by late 70s and early 80s library music. Never descending into parody or obvious re-enactment Brooks is the absolute master in this field.
