Warhol: The Dialectical Third

This catalog features numerous works that, during Andy Warhol's lifetime, received limited exposure due to social and sexual taboos, remaining largely unknown to the broader public. On display are 148 Polaroids, including those from the Ladies and Gentlemen (1974-75), Torso(1976-77), and Sex Parts 1977-78) series, as well as the Polaroids from Querelle (1982). This primarily Polaroid exhibition is supplemented by three screenprints from the Sex Parts series, one from Querelle, and two graphite drawings: one from the Torso series and an earlier hand drawing depicting three studies of the male torso.

This inaugural exhibition is central to our mission of expanding access to contemporary art; the Grove Foundation for the Arts loans major works to exhibition venues around the world each year. This initiative improves public access to key pieces and increases visibility for works vital to art history and scholarship.
